For a long time, I avoided painting rocks. When I came across them in the landscape, I left them out because I didn’t know where to start. Through many attempts, I learned to recognize a few shared shapes: round, oval, pointed, and flat. Seeing those shapes gave me a place to begin.
In this 90-minute studio demonstration, I paint rocks from start to finish. You’ll see my palette as I mix colors and work with light and shadow. The package also includes 16 of my rock photographs for your own painting practice.
